The AR Advent 2023 was an immersive exhibition featuring the work of over 50 international artists in illustration, animation, and sound design. Similar to the edition of 2022 (see here), visitors could use an AR app to open 25 doors that represented the days leading up to Christmas. Each door revealed a unique animation in AR that told a mini-story related to the holiday season. With a wide variety of illustration styles, the calendar surely sweetened the anticipation of the holidays not just for children, but for everyone. Taking place at four locations worldwide – namely Leipzig, Amsterdam, London, and Atlanta – the exhibition presented itself to a heterogeneous audience in the public space.
De Hallen, Amsterdam
Westside Paper, Atlanta
Westwerk, Leipzig
McCann, London
Along with the exhibition a poster was printed in DIN A2 size to give all the participants the possibility of the Augmented Reality experience without visiting the exhibition in situ. Additionally the daily AR experience got published on the Instagram channel @ar_advent.
The exhibition aimed at providing a platform for illustrators and animators to show their work in an immersive setting. Some took their first steps into AR, testing the possibilities of narration within this new medium.
